If you’ve never checked out a self storage national trade show, you’re truly missing out - industry shows are fun gatherings where owners, managers, vendors, and self storage professionals from all corners of the world and walks of life can gather to network and learn about the industry’s latest trends, products, and services. Every spring, self storage owners are offered two fantastic industry trade show options: the annual Self Storage Association (SSA) National Spring Conference and Trade Show in March and the Inside Self Storage (ISS) World Expo and Trade Show in April. The ISS World Expo is hosted in Las Vegas every year, but the SSA conference is a traveling show - this year, it’s being held at a waterfront convention center in National Harbor, Maryland.

The storEDGE technology team attends the SSA spring show and the ISS World Expo every year. Last year, we launched our new cloud access control product, enjoyed a keynote from accomplished astronaut, Commander Mark Kelly, and gained insight into the market from the industry’s top owners and builders. Next week, we’re travelling across the country once again to join thousands of self storage professionals at both the SSA Spring Conference and the ISS World Expo. We’ll spend our time offering live product demos, giving educational talks on the latest technology tools, and getting to know the people that make our industry great - self storage owners and managers just like you! Check out what’s next for our industry and what we’re most excited to see at the shows this spring by reading below.

Live product demos

This spring, you’ll be able to get more cutting-edge product demos than ever before during the ISS World Expo at the new, bigger-than-ever expo space at The Mirage in Las Vegas. If this is your first time checking out a self storage trade show, I suggest giving yourself plenty of time to browse the aisles of the trade show floor and meet industry vendors. Don’t forget to grab an exhibitor bag and load up on swag from the booths after checking out demos. With everything from self storage gates and access control tools to auction apps and management software demos, there are tons of things to see and do on the trade show floor. As technologists, the storEDGE team is always excited to check out all of the latest product developments, web and software tools, and hardware updates at the spring trade show.

Educational sessions

Whether you call them sessions, workshops, speakers, or seminars, one thing is for sure: self storage trade shows are loaded with opportunities to learn. Each trade show features keynote speakers to kick off the event, but you’ll want to be sure to grab a coffee and a notepad and check out the other speakers, too. There are many different educational tracks, from self storage investing and property development to technology research and manager training. Make sure you add these great educational sessions and workshops from storEDGE technologists and friends to your conference calendar:

Green facility tour

This year at the ISS World Expo, you can sign up to head off-site for a tour of a “green” self storage facility in Las Vegas. If you’re interested in solar panels, RV and boat storage, and new facility technology, you’ll definitely want to sign up to tour this Nevada facility. On Wednesday, April 3rd at 12:00pm, ISS will be taking a small group of attendees to check out a free tour of Love’s Storage Solutions in northeast Las Vegas. It’s always interesting to see how other storage owners manage their businesses and it’s fun to take a trip off the strip to see the real Las Vegas. Be sure to bring your questions about solar panels, controlling temperature in a desert climate, and converting a traditional facility to be more environmentally friendly to this tour. Sign up here!

Great food, networking, and entertainment

Of course, we can’t forget about the best part of trade shows: all of the amazing networking opportunities! The best way to meet other owners is to head down to the hotel bar or talk to people over the daily attendee breakfast buffets. Whether you’re a young self storage professional looking to meet other owners (check out YLG!) or you’re simply hoping to have a drink and catch a live show, there is a ton to see and do in Las Vegas. Check out our guide on what to eat, drink, and do in Las Vegas and don’t forget to bring your free drink passes to the conference's reception night. It’s always a party to remember!
